There will soon be a new company handling parking services at the Victoria International Airport (YYJ).
This year, the Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) sought renewal on the contract for the airport’s public parking services, which ended up going to an American company over the local former contract holder, Robbins Parking.
Robbins had previously held the airport’s parking contract for 41 years.
Robbins Parking Vice President Mo Jessa says that it is unfortunate the VAA chose another company through the RFP process.
“Although we are disappointed with the outcome, we respect the decision of the Victoria Airport Authority and commit to ensure a smooth transition,” said Jessa.
According to the VAA, a request for proposal (RFP) process was initiated that would allow them to explore their options.
Several parking companies made proposals, Robbins included, but in the end, the VAA chose an American company’s Canadian subsidiary, LAZ Parking Canada Ltd.
The VAA says that LAZ is known as a leader in airport parking management, and hopes they will deliver innovative, efficient and customer-focused parking solutions to meet the needs of the Victoria International Airport.
In the United States, LAZ Parking handles the parking services at 33 airports throughout the country.
“We deeply value and appreciate Robbins’ service at the airport and their commitment to a professional and smooth transition to the new parking operator,” said the VAA in a statement to Victoria Buzz.
“Travellers will experience a seamless transition, with minimal immediate changes.”
The VAA added that the transition will not impact parking rates, which are periodically reviewed and are determined by VAA, not the parking operator.
