VicPD have launched an investigation into numerous incidents of property damage to downtown businesses and vehicles last week.
At around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, June 20th, police received several reports of a man damaging business’ windows targeting parked vehicles in the 1600-block of Government Street, between Fisgard Street and Pandora Avenue.
Furthermore, a witness reported the suspect overturned a planter near Johnson and Government Streets, then damaged a vehicle’s side mirror while attempting to smash a window at a nearby business.
Police say another witness then reported the suspect smashing a vehicle window near the intersection of Yates and Government Streets.
VicPD say that because of the detailed descriptions that were reported, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description near the ‘Whale Wall’ in the 1300-block of Wharf Street.
Officers arrested the suspect at around 2:10 a.m. and released him while the investigation into these events continues.
Investigators say they believe there may be additional unreported incidents of property damage and additional witnesses who could help their investigation.
