Five injured after SUV rolls into Sproat Lake near Port Alberni

Five people suffered injuries after the SUV they were travelling in rolled down an embankment and into Sproat Lake early Sunday morning.

According to Port Alberni RCMP, the single-vehicle crash happened around 12:22 a.m. on June 22nd near the Taylor Main Forest Service Road.

The SUV left the roadway and rolled several times before landing in the lake. Four men and one woman were inside the vehicle.

Police say the group managed to get out of the overturned SUV on their own and made their way to the roadway to meet emergency responders.

All five individuals sustained injuries but are expected to recover.

RCMP say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
