Serious collision shuts down southbound Trans Canada Highway in Saanich

UPDATE:The Trans Canada Highway has since reopened after serious crash closed the road for much of the night. More to come.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 9:11 p.m. on May 1 regarding a motor vehicle incident on the Trans-Canada Highway of south of Helmcken Road in Saanich. Two ambulances with primary care paramedics and one ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to three patients who were transported to hospital, two in stable condition and one in serious but stable condition,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.

A serious incident has shut down the southbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway between Helmcken Road and Admirals Road, and traffic is being redirected by police.

The crash occurred at around 9 p.m. Thursday May 1st.

Saanich Police say the road will remain closed for an extended period as Collision Analysts and Forensic Identification officers investigate.

Witnesses at the scene have described it as involving two separate crashes, though police have not yet confirmed the exact details or number of vehicles involved.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and expect delays.
