A man has been charged in connection with a daytime robbery at a bank in downtown Sidney earlier this spring.
On April 22nd, 37-year-old Troy Burton was charged with robbery and possession of stolen property. Sidney/North Saanich RCMP said he remains in custody.
The charges stem from a robbery that took place on March 24th at the Scotiabank branch located at 2355 Beacon Avenue.
According to police, a man entered the bank at approximately 2:05 p.m., approached a teller, and handed over a note demanding cash. He then left with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen heading southbound on foot toward Bevan Avenue.
Officers from Sidney/North Saanich RCMP, along with members of the Central Saanich Police Service and RCMP Police Dog Service, responded to the area but were unable to locate the suspect at the time.
In a statement, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP thanked members of the community for their role in the investigation.
“We’d like to extend our appreciation to the many members of the Sidney community, particularly local businesses and their employees, whose support and cooperation were integral in helping us solve this incident,” the detachment said.
Police continue to ask anyone with additional information or surveillance footage from the area between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on the day of the robbery to contact the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931.
