Supporters of local literature, those who love to read, and curious onlookers, this is for you!
The Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is getting ready to shine a spotlight on the region’s creative talent with the launch of its 10th annual Emerging Local Authors Collection (ELAC).
On Saturday, May 24th, the Central Branch will host a celebration with a new display, recognizing 101 local authors and 111 newly published titles, each one a testament to the storytelling power and diverse voices found across southern Vancouver Island.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and marks a decade of GVPL’s commitment to supporting self-published and independent authors.
Since the program began, it has featured over 1,200 writers and nearly 1,600 titles, helping to nurture and showcase the region’s vibrant literary landscape.
From heartfelt memoirs and poetry to children’s books and compelling fiction, the works featured in this collection reflect the rich cultural tapestry and lived experiences of our community.
The launch will also offer the opportunity to meet some of the authors in person, chat with library staff, and learn more about how GVPL is fostering a platform for emerging writers.
Starting this Saturday, print books and ebook copies will be available for hold and pickup from any GPVL location.
