Comox Valley RCMP are looking to speak with witnesses after a serious crash in Courtenay sent one man to hospital and led to a full-scale search for a second.
It all started around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8th, when RCMP were en route to a single-vehicle crash reported between Cliffe Road and Island Highway North.
As police approached with lights and sirens on, they spotted another vehicle ahead of them that suddenly accelerated through the intersection at Veteran’s Memorial Parkway.
That second vehicle continued driving recklessly until it lost control on Huband Road, flipping several times before crashing.
According to witnesses, two men got out of the wrecked vehicle—one of whom appeared to be bleeding from the head. Officers located one of the men nearby and transported him to hospital.
The other man, described as Caucasian, bald, with a goatee, and wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and black pants, initially remained missing.
Police were concerned he could be injured and in need of help.
The area was thoroughly searched by frontline officers, police dogs, a drone team, and the RCMP helicopter, and the second man was eventually located.
