The songs of the cult-classic video game Stardew Valley will be performed in early 2026 at Victoria’s Royal Theatre by a full orchestra that is touring Canada.
Stardew Valley is an indie video game created entirely by a sole developer who goes by the moniker Concerned Ape.
In the game, players can create a farm, explore mines, create friendships with villagers, level up their abilities and seek tranquility through Stardew Valley’s peaceful gameplay.
Notably, Concerned Ape not only programmed the entire game by himself, but also created a celebrated score to the whole game with 91 original pieces of music.
A selection of those 91 songs will be played soon in Victoria and some other Canadian cities by the Toronto-based FILMharmonique Orchestra.
The orchestra will be conducted by renowned conductor Francis Choinière.
Though Choinière admits he has not played the game before, he told Victoria Buzz that he fell in love with the unique and delicately crafted music of Stardew Valley.
He says this was enough reason for him as any to lead this orchestral tour—not once, but twice.
“I had the chance to conduct the original tour of the Festival of Seasons in 2024 with over nine dates across Canada,” said Choinière.
“In this concert we take the audience through each season of the game as well as music from some special locations, and characters. It’s really beautiful to see the reaction of the audience and how they connect with this peaceful world.”
When asked what he thought about the music, entirely composed by the game’s sole developer Concerned Ape, Choinière said he was impressed at the artistry used to make the songs reflect different scenarios and landscapes in the game.
“The music is very well written with very careful choices of color and themes to reflect various moods in the game,” explained Choinière.
“I really enjoy digging into this music in a live concert setting.”
Choinière says that his personal favourite composition in the game is “Dance of the Moonlight Jellies” which he says always seems to hit the spot and helps him relax.
“Dance of the Moonlight Jellies” is just one example of a piece of music that plays just once per in-game year, during a special event in Stardew Valley.
Tickets go on sale for Stardew Valley: Festival of Seasons on Thursday, April 24th at 10 a.m. However, the performance at Royal Theatre isn’t scheduled until January 18th, 2026.
Given the popularity of Stardew Valley, this one is likely to sell out!
