A large-scale search effort is underway for three missing boaters from Washington after their vessel was found abandoned near Koitlah Point, just south of Vancouver Island.

The trio left Neah Bay on a 15-foot recreational boat (registration WN 8608CZ) on the morning of Tuesday, April 16th, and were expected to return by 8 p.m. that evening.

When they failed to check in, the US Coast Guard launched a search, later locating the vessel with no one on board.

Coast Guard crews from across the Pacific Northwest are actively scouring the area, joined by the Canadian Coast Guard and several other local agencies.

The search includes air stations in Port Angeles, Astoria, and Sacramento, as well as assistance from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington State Patrol, Makah Tribal Police, and the Coast Guard Cutter Blue Shark.

Vessels in the area are urged to keep watch and report anything unusual.

Anyone with information is asked to call the US Coast Guard command centre at 206-217-6001.
