Fellow book nerds, unite!
Described as one of the most popular events of the year, you won’t want to miss the iconic Times Colonist (TC) book event, which starts with a book drive and ends with a massive book sale!
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get rid of some previously-loved novels, the TC Book Drive takes place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19th to Sunday, April 20th.
Organizers ask that you pack your books in boxes or bags that you don’t want back, as it speeds up the unloading process. Also, make sure that the boxes are light enough for volunteers to lift!
They also request that you don’t donate encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines, directories, outdated reference works, Reader’s Digest condensed books or National Geographics.
The same goes for anything dog-eared, moldy, smelly or otherwise in poor condition.
The TC Book Sale is taking over the Victoria Curling Club on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th, and will contain every genre under the sun!
Doors will be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Below is a map of the space, including where genres will be shelved, wheelchair access points, washrooms, and more:

This event raises more than $300,000 a year for school libraries, literacy projects and literacy organizations throughout Vancouver island.
If you’re curious, the TC Book Sale was launched by the Times Colonist Literary Society in 1998 to fund literacy programs on Vancouver Island, and has since raised well over $6 million since the first sale.
Volunteer applications are still being accepted—view their page and scroll down to ‘Volunteer’ if you wish to be a part of this massive literacy event.
