Royals recreate nostalgic Salmon Kings video as playoffs return to Victoria (VIDEO)

The Victoria Royals are back in the playoffs—and they’re bringing the vibes.

As the playoff series against the Tri-City Americans gets underway, the Royals released a fun video that longtime Victoria hockey fans will instantly recognize—a full remake of the 2011 Victoria Salmon Kings playoff promo.

Yep, that one!

Armed with phones, squeegees, and questionable sales techniques, Royals players Nate Misskey, Cosmo Wilson, Teydon Trembecky, Reggie Newman, Cole Reschny, and Justin Kipkie step into the roles once filled by Salmon Kings staffers.

From answering phones to cleaning windows and helping fans at the ticket counter, it’s a hilariously faithful throwback to a team that helped set the stage for major junior hockey in Victoria.

And while the video is good for a laugh, the message is clear—playoff hockey is back, and the Royals are ready to make a serious run.

After clinching the BC Division title and finishing second in the Western Conference, the Royals open their best-of-seven first-round series tonight at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre against the Tri-City Americans. Game two goes down Saturday evening.

This Royals squad is rolling into the playoffs with momentum and depth at every position. They dominated the season series against Tri-City, winning three of four matchups and outscoring them 20-9—including a 9–1 victory in February.

Offensively, the Royals are stacked. Cole Reschny (92 points) and Teydon Trembecky (88 points, 46 goals) lead a forward group that scored in bunches all season long. On the back end, the blue line is just as dangerous, with rookie standout Keaton Verhoeff and veterans Misskey and Kipkie combining for 44 goals.

But the playoffs are never a walk in the park. Tri-City is one of the biggest and most physical teams in the WHL, and they’ll be looking to turn this series into a grind. They’ve got some firepower in Jake Sloan and Max Curran, and goaltender Lukas Matecha has the ability to steal games when he’s on.

Still, the Royals enter as the favourite—and with home-ice advantage to kick things off, they’re hoping the Victoria crowd can help tilt the ice in their favour.

Game one goes tonight (Friday, March 28th) at 7:05 p.m., with game two set for Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, but they won’t last long—especially after a video like that.

If you were here for the Salmon Kings era, you know what a good playoff run feels like in this city. If you’re new to Royals hockey, now’s the perfect time to jump in.

Let’s pack the barn, Victoria. The playoffs are here, and the Royals are ready.
