The City of Victoria is about to launch the second phase of Topaz Park improvements that will see several pickleball courts opened, as well as numerous other new amenities.
All in all, the improvements will bring 11 pickleball courts, a new outdoor fitness area, a meeting space, a misting station and connecting pathways.
“I’m pleased to see the next phase of Topaz Park improvements take shape,” said Mayor Marianne Alto.
“These features invite more residents of all ages to explore and enjoy this new active play space in Topaz Park.”
The City says that they chose to build these pickleball courts as a part of the park’s renovations to help meet the ever-rising demand for more spaces to play.
As part of the City’s Strategic Plan, Victoria is trying to bring more accessible sports amenities to the region and improve upon the ones that are already existing.
The President of the Victoria Regional Pickleball Association, Roger Graves, says the pickleball community is excited to have more places to play, and to have had their voices heard by city council.
“We are tremendously excited at the news of the groundbreaking,” said Graves. “This will be a fantastic facility, and we can’t wait to get on the courts.”
According to City designs for the park, the pickleball courts, meeting area and fitness area will be located next to the skate park.
The City says that during phase two’s construction, a section of the Glasgow Street parking lot will be closed and traffic may periodically be impacted on Glasgow Street.
Despite the parking closure, other park amenities such as the skate park, playground and sports fields, will remain open.
Phase two’s construction is expected to be completed in fall 2025.
