In consultation with Island Health, the Capital Regional District (CRD) has issued a boil water advisory for the Wilderness Mountain Water System in East Sooke.
The CRD is advising residents of the impacted area to boil all drinking water as a precaution until further notice.
According to a press release, the water quality is thought to have been compromised due to high turbidity water from the surface water source, Wilfred Reservoir.
High turbidity water refers to water that appears cloudy or murky due to particles such as silt, clay, or algae.

Those who require further instruction for necessary action during a boil water advisory, should consult the CRD’s list of frequently asked questions, here.
Once Island Health has confirmed that the water doesn’t pose a health concern, the advisory will be lifted.
To ensure water is disinfected, the CRD says to boil it vigorously for one minute.
