A 32-year-old man from Duncan is in hospital following a serious collision involving a semi-truck on the Trans Canada Highway late Sunday night.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say the incident happened just before 9:40 p.m. on March 23rd in the northbound lane near Beverly Street.
Police were called to the scene after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been hit while apparently trying to cross the highway on foot.
When officers arrived, they found a tractor trailer stopped in the slow lane and the man lying unconscious but breathing several feet in front of the truck. He was rushed to hospital with injuries believed to be serious and potentially life-threatening. As of Monday, he remains in stable condition.
The driver of the semi remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
“Evidence obtained by police suggests that criminality was not a factor in the crash,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.
