Victorians can score some FREE ‘Hot Cross Buns’ just by playing the song this March

It’s time to put your musical skills to the ultimate test!

If you remember the pleasure (torture?) of learning “Hot Cross Buns” on the recorder or another instrument, then this may be your moment to shine.

On March 1st, COBS Bread is turning your childhood musical abilities into a delicious reward. All you have to do is bring in your recorder (or a different instrument of choice) to a local participating COBS and play your rendition of the song.

In return, you’ll get a free, baked-from-scratch hot cross bun.

Whether you consider yourself a musical prodigy or haven’t touched an instrument in years, COBS invites you to perform and walk away with a fresh treat while supplies last.

“Hot cross buns are a beloved staple at COBS Bread, and we wanted to find a fun way to celebrate them while embracing a little bit of nostalgia,“ says Peter Furnish, VP of Marketing at COBS Bread.

“We love seeing our customers bring joy into our bakeries, and what better way to do that than with some music, some fun and a free bun?“

This challenge is not limited to any age or specific skillset. There’s no official time limit, but they recommend keeping it short and sweet.

So bring your kazoo, violin, portable mini keyboard, recorder, etc., and play for all to hear (for better or worse), and savour your reward!

You can share your performance with COBS by tagging them on social media with the hashtag #HotCrossBunsDay.

There are a number of locations in and around Victoria, and hours may vary, so check before you go.

Happy playing and good luck—you may need it!
