The City of Victoria has provided updates on how crews are approaching street clearing and municipal services while snowy conditions last.
Victoria’s crews have reportedly been working around the clock in response to the recent winter conditions that have made transportation in the city difficult.
Until the winter conditions subside, crews will continue to work 24/7 maintaining roads and services.
In regards to snow clearing on city streets, crews have been pre-treating priority routes over the last week, before the snow arrived.
Now that snow has covered City roadways, crews will be focussing on major roads, emergency routes and transit corridors, however some routes remain slippery due to slush and sub-zero temperatures.
Though more snow is in the forecast, snowfall is expected to be minimal, so the City anticipates crews will be able to focus on clearing residential streets in the afternoon beginning February 4th.
The City warns that residents should remain patient as crews may be called back to higher-priority routes when needed.
In regards to waste collection in Victoria, residential garbage collection remains on schedule. At this time, no service disruptions are expected.
Residents are being asked to stick to their regular waste routines by having their bins out and accessible by 7 a.m. on their collection day.
Waste pickup in Saanich and Esquimalt is also reportedly on schedule.
