Rush-hour snowfall could hit Greater Victoria during Wednesday evening’s commute

Victoria is bracing for more snowfall during Wednesday evening’s rush hour as city crews continue cleaning up from Monday night’s snow dump.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Greater Victoria, warning that the region can expect variable snowfall beginning late this afternoon and intensifying into the evening commute.

A low-pressure system off the BC coast is drawing moisture into the area, resulting in bands of convective flurries that could reduce visibility on local roads.

While snowfall accumulations are generally expected to range between 2 and 4 centimetres, local amounts could exceed 5 centimetres in some areas.

The timing of the storm, during peak commuting hours, poses challenges for motorists navigating the region.

Officials are urging drivers to allow extra travel time and to remain prepared for rapidly changing road conditions, especially as the unstable precipitation may lead to sudden, heavier bursts of snow.

In Victoria and its surrounding areas, caution is advised, as even brief periods of heavy flurries could impact road safety during the busy evening rush.

Other areas impacted by the warning include the Malahat, Goldstream to Mill Bay, and southern sections of the Southern Gulf Islands.
