Downtown Victoria art gallery celebrates 10th anniversary with special exhibit

Downtown Victoria’s Gage Gallery Arts Collective is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year by putting on a special showcase of past and present artists who have contributed their art over the years.

The exhibit is called This Is Us and features works from the gallery’s 22 current members, and tributes to past artists.

Gage Gallery hopes this event will showcase to the public the vibrant legacy of the influential artist-run gallery.

This exhibit will be on from February 18th to March 9th, and on Saturday, February 22nd, a reception will be held to celebrate the big milestone.

At the reception, there will be cake and remarks from current and past Gage Gallery artists.

Gage Gallery first opened in Oak Bay 10 years ago before moving downtown, and has found its success by fostering a dynamic space where the involved artists’ creativity can thrive.

It was founded by 17 members back in 2014, who had a vision of starting a collective where they could share the space and the opportunities it presented, taking turns putting on exhibits and supporting one another.

That’s the message they hope to convey with the This Is Us showcase.

Visitors to the gallery will get to experience a diverse range of art, including works on paper, paintings, sculptures, 3D mixed media, drawings, fabric art, prints, encaustic works and photographic prints.

“Gage Gallery is more than just a gallery—it’s a community,” says Margo Cooper, the longest-standing continuous member of the collective.

“This exhibition is both a tribute and an invitation. It’s a chance for us to celebrate where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going.”

“We are so grateful for the continuing support of our patrons and fans,” adds Tanya Bub, long-time member.

“Their encouragement and engagement make creating art so worthwhile. It’s truly a joy to share our work with them and feel their appreciation in return.”

Gage Gallery wants to invite the public to join artists past and present in the celebration at the opening reception on February 22nd.
