Laketown Shakedown comes to an end but plans rebrand and new approach to festivals

The festival grounds near Lake Cowichan that host the largest outdoor amphitheatre in western Canada have announced that going forward, they will be taking a new approach to how they put on festivals.

The Laketown Ranch team has been producing festivals that include Laketown Shakedown, Laketown Rock and Sunfest, hosting some of the world’s biggest names and greatest talents on their stage.

Last year, Gwen Stefani, Busta Rhymes and Jesse Roper were the headliners at Laketown Shakedown, along with other massive talents from across Canada and right here in Victoria.

However, on Friday, January 17th, the operators of Laketown Ranch announced that they will be changing things up.

“Since 2016, the team at Laketown has strived to bring the music world’s brightest luminaries to Vancouver Island for unforgettable performances in our amphitheater,” said the Laketown team.

“We have and will strive to continually improve and evolve the experience for our valued guests.”

They continued by saying that as a part of their evolution, they have decided to expand their horizons and look at all options for 2025 and beyond in order to maximize the benefits of having a permanent amphitheatre.

“Moving forward, our team will be transitioning away from the Shakedown name, programming model and dates so that we can be open to a wider range of opportunities throughout the season in the Laketown amphitheatre,” they added.

“These options will include a wide array of single and multi-day events between May and September.”

For now, they have changed their name on social media from Laketown Shakedown to simply ‘Laketown Amphitheatre,’ where they will be posting updates on changes going forward.

“We look forward to making some big shiny announcements soon,” the Laketown Ranch team concluded.

“Thank you to all our valued guests. We truly couldn’t do any of this without you and your support.”

Sunfest will not be impacted by the changes being made to Laketown Shakedown at this time.

What do you hope to see Laketown do in the future? What types of artists would you like to see booked?
