West Shore RCMP have opened an investigation into the arson of a single-family home in View Royal in the early hours Tuesday.
At around 12:40 a.m. on January 7th, police responded to a fire at a single-family home on the 300-block of Damon Drive.
Police say as officers arrived, View Royal firefighters were already on the scene attempting to extinguish the fire.
All occupants of the home were safely evacuated, according to West Shore RCMP.
“The home did sustain significant damage and police are investigating this fire as an arson,” wrote Cpl. Nancy Saggar in a media release.
“West Shore RCMP Serious Crimes Unit is in charge of this investigation and will be working alongside View Royal Fire Department Fire investigators.”
To aid in their investigation, West Shore RCMP are asking those living nearby the scene of the fire to assist police and share any video surveillance footage they may have.
“The investigation is in its very early stages and no further details will be shared at this time,” continued Cpl. Saggar.
“Though the fire was safely put out, it did pose a risk to public safety and police are advising the public in the area to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to police immediately.”
Anyone with dashcam footage who was driving in and around the area of Damon Drive between 10 p.m. on January 6th and 3 a.m. January 7th should contact West Shore RCMP at (250) 952-6142.
