A search in the early morning hours during freezing temperatures ended successfully, thanks to a dedicated search team, including an RCMP officer and a search dog.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a missing 13-year-old girl in Courtenay was safely located thanks to the coordinated efforts of Comox Valley RCMP and Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR).
The search began late Tuesday evening after the young girl was reported missing from her home in an urban area of Courtenay around 10 p.m. Concerned for her safety, RCMP launched an initial search before requesting assistance from CVSAR just after midnight.
Delta, a highly trained two-year-old golden retriever and a member of the CVSAR K9 team, was quickly brought in to assist. The dedicated search dog played a critical role in the search efforts, helping locate the girl shortly before 2:30 a.m. She was found safe and has since been reunited with her family.
In a Facebook post, CVSAR expressed gratitude for the collaboration between their team and the RCMP, highlighting Delta’s valuable contribution to the operation. “Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our teams, the young woman was found safe and has been reunited with her family,” the post read.
“A special thanks goes to ‘Delta,’ one of our dedicated search dogs, who played an important role in bringing this search to a positive conclusion.”
