Rainfall warnings in effect for some regions of Vancouver Island this weekend

Some regions of Vancouver Island will be hit with mass amounts of rain this weekend, while other regions appear to be safe from the rainfall warnings.

According to Environment Canada, western island communities are the ones that may be at risk of heavy rains.

Total rainfall amounts in Port Renfrew, Sooke and Tofino are expected to reach between 100 and 120 millimeters.

The heavy rains are expected to begin in these western communities late in the morning of Friday, December 6th, and last until after midnight.

Environment Canada warns residents in these communities of water pooling on roads and localized flooding due to blocked drains.

Additionally, drivers should be cautious with heavy downpours that can cause flash floods on roads.

The national weather authority warns motorists to reduce speeds if visibility is low, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

DriveBC will have details on any road disruption that results from this incoming storm.

“A robust and rain laden frontal system will slide down the BC Coast this morning,” reads Environment Canada’s rainfall warning.

“Rain, heavy at times, will begin through this morning. The heaviest rain will ease off after midnight as the frontal system passes through.”

Even though Sooke is implicated in this rainfall warning, no other Greater Victoria communities are expected to experience this weather system.

As of this publication, Victoria is forecasted to have a 40% chance of showers on Saturday with Sunday being all sunshine.
