On the weekend, Port Alberni RCMP were called to the scene of a stabbing which left a man with multiple wounds.
On Saturday December 14th at around 4:30 p.m., police arrived at a building in the 3000 block of 4th Avenue where the victim was found on the second floor with numerous stab wounds.
Police say that all paramedics were busy on other calls, so officers carried the victim out of the building and transported him to hospital in the backseat of a squad car while attempting to keep pressure on his wounds.
The man was reportedly stabilized at the West Coast General Hospital before being transferred out of the community for further treatment.
As of this publication, he remains in critical condition.
Police say they were able to identify and locate a suspect, who has since been arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The suspect was held for one day before a bail hearing was held on Sunday, December 15th, and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
“Our members made critical decisions and acted swiftly to get the victim the life saving medical attention he needed,” said Insp. Kim Bruce with the Port Alberni RCMP.
Police say the victim and suspect were known to one another and the investigation is still ongoing.
