A motorcyclist has been hospitalized after a two vehicle collision in Nanaimo yesterday.
In a media release, Nanaimo RCMP said a motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision with a car at the intersection of Terminal Avenue North and Princess Royal Avenue/St. George Street in Nanaimo on Tuesday, December 17th.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. when a grey Kia Sportage, heading south on Terminal Avenue, attempted a left turn onto Princess Royal Avenue.
At the same time, an older-model Suzuki motorcycle travelling northbound on Terminal Avenue collided with the vehicle.
Emergency responders, including police, fire services, and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), arrived at the scene.
The motorcyclist, an adult male, was transported to the Nanaimo hospital with serious injuries. Several bystanders, including an off-duty paramedic, provided assistance at the scene.
The driver of the Kia, who was not injured, remained on-site and cooperated fully with investigators. Police have stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision.
The Nanaimo RCMP is seeking witnesses to assist with their investigation. They are asking anyone with dash camera footage from the area at the time or who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to police to contact their non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
