Theatre lovers and Jane Austen aficionados, this is for you!
The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) invites audiences to fall in love once more with Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility, brought to life by an all-star cast of second-year students.
This charming and witty adaptation by Canadian playwright Michelle Deines runs from Thursday, December 12th to Sunday, December 15th, offering five performances of this timeless tale of love, loyalty, and longing.
Award-winning director and CCPA faculty member, Barbara Poggemiller, is at the helm of this production, and she’s thrilled to present a fresh take on the classic.
“Jane Austen is a master of holding love in suspense, setting impossible obstacles in the way of her characters,” Poggemiller says.
“We are grateful for Michelle Deines’ adaptation, which condenses many words into action—both emotional and physical.”
This production marks the culmination of the first term for CCPA’s second-year students, offering them a pivotal opportunity to integrate their training into a full theatrical experience.
The Year II play serves as a key part of their education, blending acting, movement, song, voice, and accent as they bring the world of Sense & Sensibility to the stage.
“This wonderful, talented cast of actors brings their hearts, minds, imagination, and rich creativity to these beloved characters,” Poggemiller adds.
“They create multiple roles, locations, moods, music, and movement, working as a dynamic ensemble to tell this story in a new and vibrant way.”
Whether you’re a seasoned Jane Austen fan or are discovering the Dashwood sisters’ journey for the first time, this adaptation promises something for everyone—wit, warmth, and the timeless pursuit of love.
Tickets are $30 for an adult, $28 for seniors, and $25 for those under 30-years-old.
