Island Health has announced that the downtown Victoria Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) will be shutting down for one day on Tuesday, December 17th.
This shutdown is taking place due to a planned BC Hydro electrical shutdown.
On Tuesday, those seeking medical attention will have to book an appointment at another Victoria-area UPCC.
There are additional UPCCs located in the following areas:
- James Bay – Unit B – 547 Michigan Street, Victoria
- North Quadra – 100 – 4420 Chatterton Way, Victoria
- Gorge – 63 Gorge Road East, Saanich
- Esquimalt – 890 Esquimalt Road, Esquimalt
- Westshore – 582 Goldstream Avenue, Langford
Appointments can be made at any of these locations by calling 1-833-688-8722.
BC Hydro says this temporary power shut off will take place in order for a system upgrade to take place at the downtown UPCC.
Island Health says that clinical staff will be re-deployed to other UPCCs to support patient care in other locations that will have additional burden of care from those who would have sought medical attention at the downtown location.
They added that virtual care appointments will not be affected.
The downtown Victoria UPCC is slated to resume normal operations on Wednesday, December 18th.
