Happy New Year, Victoria!

We hope you’re taking a much-needed sleep-in after all of your New Year’s Eve festivities—whether you went out or stayed in.

If you’re ready to start your 2025 off with a bang, we’ve highlighted some events to get you and your loved ones out and about.

Some highlighted events include a free New Year’s Day skate, Polar Bear Swims, trivia and much more.

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Wednesday, January 1st:

New Years Day Free Skate

Load the car up with your kidlets and head over to the Archie Browning Sports Centre for a free New Year’s Day Skate!

Admission is free but the rentals are separate purchase and aren’t included in admission.

  • When: Wednesday, January 1st from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Festival of Trees Victoria

There’s still time to catch the Festival of Trees!

It has been a beloved holiday tradition on Vancouver Island for over 30 years, celebrating community support for BC Children’s Hospital with beautifully decorated trees.

This year’s event features up to 100 sponsored trees, and they’ll remain on display until January 5th.

The Bay Centre invites the community to enjoy the display, vote for their favorite trees, and help raise vital funds for BC’s children!

  • Where: The Bay Centre, 1150 Douglas Street
  • When: Kicked off on Friday, November 15th and runs until January 5th

Movie Night at Capital 6

Looking for a low-key New Year’s outing? Why not enjoy a bag of delicious movie theatre popcorn and catch that film you’ve been meaning to see?

Check out A Complete Unknown, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Moana 2, plus a handful of others.

Whether you grab some friends or go alone, Capital 6 is offering both 3D and 2D showings at a discounted Tuesday saver rate.

Trivia at Spinnakers

Dust of the ol’ thinking cap and head down to Spinnakers Brewpub for some Sixty Watt Trivia!

You can have a team of up to eight people, and teams of three or fewer will receive a bonus point each round.

Spinnakers takes reservations, so you can book your table! Trivia is free to play and free to win.

Take an Icy Dip

As the holiday decorations are taken down, it’s time to get excited about the possibilities that 2025 could bring!
