A time for the community to come together and honour those we’ve lost.

The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) will present their annual Concert of Remembrance this Friday, November 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre at Oak Bay High School.

This show has been an annual tradition since the founding of CCPA, and brings a moving evening of song, story and poetry.

This year, the performance will include their co-presenter, the District of Oak Bay, and the Band on the 5th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery.

“This concert is the first of our season, and since the College’s inception has allowed students to form a strong bond, sing moving music to honour sacrifices made in times of conflict, and learn the importance of giving back to our local community,” said Danielle Meunier, Director of Education.

“Following the concert with the Band of the 5th (BC) Field Regiment, students will bring this reflective and life affirming performance to five community locations across Victoria over the Remembrance Day weekend.”

The presented songs, poems, letters and dialogue will present the audience with authentic voices that evoke feelings of struggle and loss, as well as the bonds of love and camaraderie found in these periods of conflict and hardship.

The Band of the 5th Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will perform nine pieces, ending with the National Anthem. Afterwards, the CCPA students will take the stage.

“I am excited to work on this exceptional performance by the students of the Canadian College of Performing Arts,” said R.J. Peters, Director of the concert, CCPA Alumni, and Manager of Production and Design at CCPA.

“For two decades, the concert has honoured our veterans through powerful music, storytelling, and theatre. This will be an evening that promises to stir the heart and ensure the legacy of those who served is never forgotten.”

Tickets for this event are priced on a ‘pay-what-you-can’ basis, with cost starting at $15.

The proceeds earned from the concert will go towards both the Canadian Heritage Arts Society and the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre—which is an independent non-profit organization that serves military families.
