A serious collision on the Pat Bay Highway Tuesday afternoon sent a cyclist to hospital with serious injuries.
The accident occurred shortly after noon on November 12th on HWY 17 at the Island View Road intersection.
According to Central Saanich Police, both the cyclist and a large truck were in the northbound left-turn lane on the Pat Bay, preparing to turn west onto Island View Road.
It is believed when the light turned green, the truck driver reportedly did not see the cyclist and struck him as they turned.
Photos from the scene showed a cyclist trapped beneath a large truck, with bystanders providing aid until emergency crews arrived.
Responding Central Saanich fire crews were able to extricate the cyclist, allowing paramedics to attend to him upon their arrival.
Traffic in the area was heavily impacted for several hours while traffic analysts assisted police with the investigation.
The cyclist’s injuries are described as serious. Victoria Buzz has reached out to BC Ambulance Service for further details on the man’s injuries.
