Another windstorm is heading for Greater Victoria on Tuesday

Another strong windstorm is set to hit Greater Victoria, starting Tuesday evening and continuing into Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for these regions, warning of strong winds that could cause widespread damage.

The alert, which also extends to Metro Vancouver’s southern sections, the Southern Gulf Islands, east Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast, predicts winds reaching speeds of 70 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h.

The effects could be significant, with power outages likely as high winds may bring down trees and branches, disrupting both travel and utilities.

This weather system comes on the heels of a previous storm that left more than 300,000 BC Hydro customers in the province without power.

According to Environment Canada, the new round of blustery southeast winds will begin sweeping through areas near the Strait of Georgia, Haro Strait, and Boundary Bay late Tuesday and are expected to ease by Wednesday morning.

Residents are cautioned to secure any loose outdoor objects that could become dangerous projectiles.

In addition to possible power outages, Environment Canada warns of the potential for travel delays due to the high winds.

Although there are currently no travel advisories from BC Ferries, travellers are encouraged to check the BC Ferries website for updates over the next 48 hours, as conditions could impact ferry schedules.

Those living in the affected areas are urged to stay updated with alerts and forecasts as the storm approaches.

There are currently no travel advisories from BC Ferries but those planning to travel over the next 48 hours should check their website before heading out.
