One person is dead after a seaplane crashed near Port Hardy on Wednesday.
Port Hardy RCMP confirmed they were investigating a float plane crash that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, October 2nd, in Warner Bay, Seymour Inlet.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) alerted RCMP at approximately 7:50 p.m. about the incident.
The Search and Rescue and Tactical Recce and Recovery Unit (SAR TAC) were deployed to the scene, where they recovered the three occupants of the float plane.
Unfortunately, one of the occupants was found deceased.
Port Hardy RCMP said they are working closely with the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of the crash, which remains unknown at this time.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) and West Coast Marine Services have also been brought in to support the ongoing investigation.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and everyone impacted by this tragedy,” said Port Hardy RCMP in a statement.
RCMP said further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
