Nanaimo RCMP are seeking information from the public to aid them in their investigation of a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of an adult man.

According to police the incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 24th, on Harmac Road just east of the Cedar Road Bridge.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended, but despite the efforts of bystanders and first responders, the man was determined to be deceased at the scene.

BC Coroners Service were then contacted and attended the scene.

Police say they had to close the roadway overnight to allow investigators to examine the scene and collect evidence.

“At this point in the investigation it appears that the victim was walking along the side of the road when struck by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene,” said Nanaimo RCMP in a media release about the incident.

Police are now seeking the public’s aid in identifying the driver and vehicle involved.

Specifically, investigators are asking witnesses and those with dash cam footage from the area between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to come forward.

Anyone who has information should contact Nanaimo RCMP at (250) 754-2345.
