Victoria Royals fans will need to readjust their radios as the team announces a new broadcasting partnership for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
After more than a decade of airing play-by-play action on The Zone @ 91.3, the Royals have revealed a fresh agreement with Rogers Sports & Media.
Starting next month, all Royals games will now be heard on JACK 103.1 FM.
“This partnership is an exciting new chapter for our team,” said Royals Vice-President of Hockey Operations, Joey Poljanowski.
“Rogers shares our organizational commitment to our community and to connecting our fans with the team through quality content and extensive coverage. Sharing our story with the whole Island and across western Canada is an organizational pillar and this partnership enhances our mutual platform to do so.”
“We are thrilled to bring the Victoria Royals to JACK 103.1. Hockey is a cornerstone of our culture here in Victoria, and this partnership allows us to connect with our audience in a new and exciting way,” said Matt Huntingford, Sales Manager at Rogers Sports & Media Victoria.
“We’re committed to delivering high-quality sports coverage that our listeners will love. We believe this partnership will not only enhance the fan experience but also strengthen our connection to the community.”
The Royals kicked off their season with back-to-back games against the Tri-City Americans at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, securing 3 out of 4 points. Both games were nail-biters, going into overtime with final scores of 5-4. The Royals claimed victory in the season opener, while the Americans managed to take the second game in the series.
In addition to the new station, fans can look forward to hearing the new voice of the Royals, Remy Zanotto.
Zanotto brings over eight years of experience to the team, having joined from Brock University, where he honed his skills in covering hockey, rugby, and lacrosse.
He said he is excited to bring his energy to Royals’ broadcasts, saying, “I strive to capture the moment and make it memorable for those watching at home.”
The first game on JACK 103.1 will be broadcast on October 4th when the Royals take on the Portland Winterhawks.
In the meantime, the Royals games between the Kelowna Rockets and Kamloops Blazers on September 27th and 28th can be heard on the Royals Facebook page and WHL Live.
This partnership with JACK 103.1 is expected to bring extensive coverage and heightened fan engagement throughout the season, connecting hockey enthusiasts across Vancouver Island and beyond.
