In what might be the most unexpected gardening showdown of the year, Oak Bay Police found themselves responding to a hedge-related altercation late last month.
It all began when a resident in the 1000 block of Beach Drive was trimming their hedges – you know, minding their own bush-ness – when suddenly, an unknown woman arrived on the scene, seemingly enraged by the hedge-trimming.
According to police, the 49-year-old woman slapped the hedge trimmer right across the cheek before driving away from the scene.
A short time later, police received another call reporting that the suspect had returned to the scene. Officers promptly arrived and arrested the woman for assault.
The woman was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face the charges.
Two days earlier, on August 27th at 4:55 a.m., a resident in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue reported being threatened by an unknown man.
Responding officers quickly located a 47-year-old suspect. During the arrest, officers found the suspect in possession of a knife, which violated a court order prohibiting him from carrying any weapons.
Police also found him in possession of a woman’s stolen ID, which had been reported missing in April.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Poisson, was held for a bail hearing and now faces charges of breaching a release order, possession of stolen property, and uttering threats.
He’ll be back in court on September 10th.
Whether it’s hedge trimming drama or early-morning threats, it seems Oak Bay residents have had an unusually eventful week. Let’s hope things trim down soon!
