Two people are dead, and two others were hospitalized Friday morning after apparent heavy drug use on a West Shore beach.
On August 30th, around 6:25 a.m., West Shore RCMP and other emergency personnel responded to reports of four individuals in medical distress at the Taylor Road beach access in Metchosin.
The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with multiple units from the BC Ambulance Service and Metchosin Fire Department joining RCMP officers at the scene.
Police said evidence of hard drug use was found in the area.
Tragically, despite the extensive life-saving efforts of first responders, two adult females were pronounced dead at the scene. Two adult males, who also appeared to be suffering from drug overdoses, were rushed to the hospital and remain in critical condition.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified, and an investigation is ongoing. Police have stated that no foul play is suspected, and there is no risk to the general public.
Due to the ongoing investigation, beach and road access in the area of Taylor Road may be restricted for some time. Police are asking the public to avoid the area to allow investigators to continue their work.
The age and identities of the victims have not been released.
“Our condolences go out to the families of these individuals, as well as the witnesses who first came across the incident,” a police spokesperson said.
