A fatal single-vehicle crash on the Gold River Highway (Highway 28) has prompted Campbell River RCMP to seek assistance from the public.
The accident, which occurred on August 25th, has resulted in the death of one individual.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., Campbell River RCMP received a report of a vehicle that had veered off the highway and plunged down an embankment.
The incident was discovered after a passing motorist noticed that highway barriers were out of place along the section of Highway 28 between Campbell River and Strathcona Lodge.
Upon investigating, the motorist located the vehicle fully submerged in water.
Tragically, one person inside the vehicle did not survive the crash. Police said there is currently no indication that any other individuals were involved.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is still in its early stages, and the factors leading to the crash are yet to be determined.
Efforts to recover the vehicle and the deceased are being led by the Campbell River RCMP, with the support of the RCMP Dive Team and the Campbell River Search and Rescue Team.
Traffic in the area will be affected during the recovery operation, with Main Roads personnel on-site directing vehicles.
Police are urging anyone who may have information or dash cam footage related to the incident to come forward. Witnesses are asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
