Skaters of Sooke and the surrounding area have been waiting patiently for a new, modern skatepark to be built and soon they will be one step closer to dropping in.
The current Sooke Skate Park was built in 1997 by the Rotary Club of Sooke.
According to the Capital Regional District (CRD), it has now reached the end of its life and was made a priority in the 2015-2030 Strategic Plan for the Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC).
Since then, funds have been allocated to get a design ready that will subsequently guide the construction phase.
SEAPARC have now concluded their public engagement and review stages of building the park.

In those phases SEAPARC had a live online survey to ask what kinds of features and elements residents and skaters who would be frequenting the park wanted from it.
Now, SEAPARC are getting ready to unveil what they have put together in the skatepark’s draft conceptual plan.
An open house will be held on August 22nd to unveil the design at the SEAPARC Recreation Centre in which the public will be invited to come see what the designers of the skatepark have come up with.
Following this step in the process, the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the design, then a final concept will be revealed before construction can begin.
However, the CRD has noted that the “implementation” stage in which the park will be built based on the design will require additional funding.
