A GoFundMe has been launched for a mother and two children after a head-on collision on the Malahat highway over the long weekend.
The two vehicle crash occurred at around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, leading to the closure of both northbound lanes for several hours.
According to police, a grey Acura MDX was travelling southbound and crossed the centre line, colliding head-on with a grey Honda Civic heading north—which is the vehicle the mother and two children were in.
The GoFundMe’s organizer shared that they had been travelling on the Malahat to visit their Godparents at the time of the crash.
The children are aged three-years-old and two-years-old—the youngest of which was released with a fractured collarbone among other injuries, and the oldest remains was transported to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver with serious injuries.
“We are seeking to lift this family up and help release the burdens at least financially [sic] for this single mum,” the GoFundMe page reads.
“She has been back in school for business and is trying so hard to make a better life for her children. No matter the amount, we would appreciate any donation as it all adds up! Some of the expenses she will be facing will be a new car, car seats, rent, food, etc.”
At the time of this publication, $9,660 has been raised out of their $15,000 goal.

RCMP stated that the male driver and female passenger in the Acura MDX sustained minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
