Two people have been confirmed dead in a plane crash near Tofino today.
Police are investigating tragic plane crash and fire that resulted in the deaths of two people and serious injuries to a third.
At 12:48 p.m. Thursday July 18th, Tofino RCMP received a report of a plane crash on a runway at Long Beach Airport.
Early information suggests that a small 6-seat aircraft may have suffered an engine fire during takeoff.
One occupant was rescued from the plane and is being transported to hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the two other occupants died at the scene.
Tofino RCMP said they collaborating with the Transportation Safety Board and BC Coroners Service to investigate the cause of this incident.
No information on the deceased or aircraft type have been released as of this publication.
