Early yesterday morning, a report of a fire was called into the Victoria Fire Department, who dispatched a crew to investigate.
On Tuesday, July 23rd at around 6:45 a.m., crews arrived to find smoke billowing from a 1950s home in the 1500 block of Myrtle Street, near Hillside Mall.
Victoria Fire says crews immediately deployed hose lines and made entry to the home.
They say they got the flames under control quickly, but the source of the flames was coming from the basement, which continued to flare up for some time.
According to Victoria Fire, it took two hours to mitigate fire extension and remove water from the home, helping the home’s tenants protect their belongings from further damage.
Two of the home’s residents were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening smoke inhalation injuries.
