Campbell River BC Highway Patrol impounded a rental truck for impaired driving and excessive speeding in a construction zone last week.
On Wednesday, June 26th just after 9:30 a.m., police were conducting speed enforcement in a construction zone on Highway 19 near Comox Valley Parkway, Courtenay.
The construction site was fully active, with work crews and equipment operating in the area at this time.
Police clocked the truck travelling at 106 km/hr in the 60 km/hr zone—almost double the posted speed limit.
They then pulled the truck over and found that the driver was impaired from alcohol.
“The construction workers on the roadway were put in danger because of the impaired driver,” said Staff Sergeant Tallboy, Acting OIC BCHP Vancouver Island.
“If you are planning on consuming alcohol or drugs this summer, then arrange for a safe ride, and please keep roadside workers safe by slowing down for construction zones.”
The driver was issued a $368 violation ticket for excessive speed and was prohibited from driving for 90 days for impaired driving.
The rental vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
