A small fire in downtown Victoria has led to the temporary closure of Quazar’s Arcade for cleanup.
On Saturday, July 6th, Quazar’s announced on social media that it would be closed until further notice. Later that day, the company updated that the closure was due to fire damage.
According to a post on Instagram, staff arrived Saturday morning to find the store filled with smoke.
It was later determined that the fire had started at street level outside the building, spread to a pillar flanking Quazar’s entrance, and Quazar’s is located downstairs of the building.
“We hope this was an unintentional act,” the company said on Instagram.
“The pillar that caught fire is likely as old as the building, and we are unsure how long it smouldered, but Quazar’s was completely filled with smoke when our morning staff arrived.”
According to Quazar’s, the games remain “almost completely intact” because firefighters moved them away from the area before spraying water on the fire.
Initially, there were hopes that the business would reopen on Sunday. However, it was later updated that it would need to remain closed for at least one more day.
In an email statement, VicPD confirmed that there was a structure fire in the 1200-block of Government Street on Saturday morning. It was contained to a small area near the front entrance of the building, and there is no indication that the fire was suspicious.
