British Columbians have lost pride in economy, monarchy and parliament (SURVEY)

A recent survey to gather data on what makes British Columbians proud to be Canadian suggests that there are many things that the province has lost faith in. 

According to the results, the four things BC residents remain prideful about are the Canadian flag at 83% saying it made them proud, the Canadian Armed Forces at 69%, hockey at 68% and multiculturalism at 67%.

Conversely, BC respondents to the survey had the least pride in the Canadian economy at 38% still holding pride in its current state, the Canadian justice system at 43%, parliament at 44% and the monarchy at 45%. 

These results are similar across all regions of Canada with some slight variations and some major ones. 

For example, when it comes to BC, 52% of respondents said they are proud of the Canadian healthcare system whereas in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, this figure was only 34% and in the Atlantic provinces, it was only 28%. 

The Canadian average amount of pride in the healthcare system is 48%.

When it comes to bilingualism, only 51% of BC respondents said they take pride in this facet of Canadian identity, but Quebecers said that 69% take pride in this. Saskatchewanians and Manitobans only responded with 37% taking pride in bilingualism. 

Across Canada, respondents averaged at 58% taking pride in our bilingual roots. 

The survey which found these results was conducted by BC-based data analytics firm, Research Co.
