RCMP have confirmed that a large SUV involved in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend was an unmarked police cruiser.
On Saturday, June 1st, at approximately 11:50 a.m., a collision involving a dark SUV and a red minivan occurred at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Edgelow Road in Ladysmith.
The crash caused the SUV to flip on its roof in a ditch. Both drivers sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
The BC Highway Patrol – Duncan is actively investigating the incident and said they are aware of numerous videos circulating on social media.
In an email statement, RCMP confirmed to Victoria Buzz that the dark SUV involved in the crash was an unmarked police cruiser, driven by an undercover officer.
Investigators are seeking assistance from the public and are specifically requesting dashcam or cellphone video footage that may have captured the incident.
Reports have emerged suggesting that the undercover officer was aggressively following a group of motorcyclists at the time of the crash.
While RCMP has confirmed there was a motorcycle gathering in the vicinity, they stated that no further information regarding the officer’s involvement with the bikers has been received.
Anyone with such footage is urged to contact the BCHP – Duncan by email at ‘E_BCHPC_CRASHTEAM@rcmp.grc.gc.ca’ or by phone at 250-276-2751.
