VicPD are investigating an early morning collision involving a single vehicle.

This morning on Wednesday, May 1st, just after 1 a.m., officers were conducting patrols in the downtown area and came across a single-vehicle collision in the 600-block of Hillside Avenue.

Police determined that the vehicle struck a venting pipe and utility control box—causing “considerable damage” to the vehicle as well as the road infrastructure.

The 2600-block of Government Street was closed for a few hours while traffic analysts and officers investigated the collision.

City of Victoria staff attended as well to ensure the streets were properly cleared of debris, including both the roadway and bike lanes.

The road reopened just before 7 a.m. today.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators  will continue to analyze the circumstances that led to the collision, and speed is believed to be a factor.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage is asked to contact VicPD at (250) 995-7654.
