In 2023, the Victoria city council announced that they would be extending the dock at Banfield Park once more and bringing further improvements to the new recreational area in the Gorge Waterway.
Following the installation, this area will be dubbed Victoria’s ‘Gorge Marine Park.’
The City says that the Gorge Marine Park Improvement Project aims to build on the success of Banfield Park dock which was expanded in 2022.
Currently, the area has a floating dock which is attached to the shoreline as well as an offshore floating swim platform.
The new dock expansion will see the already installed expansion stretch out even further towards the floating swim platform and will feature sitting areas and ladders for accessibility.
Anchored buoys will also be installed to ensure swimmers are safe by staying within the confines of the designated swimming area.
Construction began with the dock being temporarily fenced off for the spring as the improvements are being implemented.
The area was fenced off in the last week of April and the project is expected to be finished sometime in June.
