Selina Robinson, a BC NDP MLA, has announced that she is stepping down from her role as Minister of Post-Secondary and Future Skills.
Robinson represents the constituents in the Coquitlam-Maillardville riding and has since 2013.
Last Friday, February 1st, a video of her in a Zoom meeting went viral after she made Islamophobic comments regarding Palestine.
She called Palestine a “crappy piece of land” and insinuated that the Palestinian people did not effectively use the land prior to much of their land being gifted to the Jewish people as Israel in 1948, following the Second World War.
Since then, many people across various social media platforms have been calling for her resignation.
Robinson has since issued two apologies, one as an X (formerly Twitter) post and one as a statement.

Now, following talks with Premier David Eby and the rest of the BC caucus, Robinson has announced that she will be stepping down as Minister; however, she will be finishing the remainder of her term.
“There have been many discussions over the weekend with the Premier and many caucus colleagues, and together we decided it’s best for me to step aside as Minister of Post Secondary Education and Future Skills,” said Robinson in a statement.
“This decision does not excuse my harmful comments, nor does it absolve me of the work I am committed to doing.”
“While I had previously decided not to run again in the next election I remain committed to my constituents for the remainder of my term,” she concluded.
She has also said she will be committing to taking anti-Islamophobia training in the near future.
