Thanks to the help of bystanders and local police a man in distress was rescued on Saturday.
Nanaimo RCMP officers responded to a distress call around 4 p.m. on February 3rd, concerning a man in distress on the Bastion Street Bridge in downtown Nanaimo.
Upon arrival, officers found several pedestrians attempting to communicate with the man, who had climbed over the bridge railing and was holding onto a lamppost.
Responding officers initiated de-escalation techniques, while one officer, with the help of a pedestrian, successfully pulled the man back over the railing.
Following the incident, the individual was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Constable Mike Thompson, Media Relations Officer, expressed gratitude for the swift response of the community and the dedication of the officers involved. He emphasized the importance of timely intervention in such situations and commended the collective effort that led to a positive outcome.
