In a move to enhance convenience and streamline parking experiences, the City of Victoria has rolled out an innovative solution that aims to transform how motorists interact with downtown parking.
The introduction of a live stats tracker for downtown parkades marks a significant step forward in simplifying parking management and improving accessibility.
Accessible through an intuitive online portal, this real-time parking resource allows users to access information about the occupancy levels in various City-run parkades.
The initiative aims to allow drivers with the ability to plan their parking ahead of time, avoiding unnecessary stress and congestion in the downtown area.
The live stats tracker presents comprehensive data, presenting the status of general stalls and various specialized spaces within the Broughton Street, Centennial Square, Johnson Street, View Street, and Yates Street parkades.
These insights encompass information about accessible stalls, 1 hour free stalls, and 3 hour max stalls, offering a detailed overview to accommodate diverse parking needs.
By providing visibility into the availability of parking spaces in real time, the City of Victoria aims to streamline traffic flow and enhance the overall parking experience.
The data is updated through the use of motion sensor technology which counts the number of vehicles entering and exiting parkades, then shares the number of open parking spaces online at victoria.ca/findparkadespaces.
“Parking demand soars on busy days, leading to frustration for those visiting the downtown core,” said Kerri Moore, the City’s Director of Business and Community Relations.
“With real-time parking space availability, the stress of trying to find a parking space is eliminated, so people can save time and energy during their visit downtown.”
Victoria is one of several Canadian cities to adopt the new technology, which also helps to reduce idling and fuel consumption, in addition to reducing driving distractions and frustration.
