‘It’s a bummer for sure’: Thief steals estimated $20K in gold chains from Langford jeweler

A small jewelry business in Langford fell victim to a thief last Friday, who made off with over an estimated $20,000 in men’s gold chains.

The owner of Westshore Gold & Silver, Cory Kowalchuk, told Victoria Buzz that around 4 p.m. on December 8th, a young man robbed the store while the clerk was busy helping another customer.

“The young man entered earlier in the day when both of us were working, but he returned after I was home and there was a young lady working by herself,” said Kowalchuk.

“He asked to see them, and when she turned away to help another customer, he grabbed them and ran out the door.”

He says that he called West Shore RCMP immediately following the incident and investigators attended the scene shortly thereafter.

“It’s a real kick to the shins at this time of year and doesn’t make the staff feel very comfortable trying to be of service,” Kowalchuk said.

“It’s a bummer for sure.”

Victoria Buzz spoke with West Shore RCMP who said more details will be released in the following days.

For now, Kowalchuk hopes that is anyone recognizes the young man who is pictured above that allegedly stole from him, they will call West Shore RCMP.
